Gerar — The Same Lie, Twice

After chapter fifteen's justification and chapter eighteen's intercession, Abraham travels to Gerar and does the exact same thing he did in Egypt — the identical lie about Sarah. God protects her again, this time through a dream to Abimelech, and Abraham is called "prophet" for the first time in Scripture — in the very episode where he's caught in a half-truth. Sit with that placement; the text isn't shy about where it puts the title. This repetition, decades after his greatest recorded moments of faith, is worth taking seriously rather than smoothing over — it tells you that a settled justification before God doesn't automatically produce a finished sanctification in daily life. The besetting sin comes back. Isaac will repeat this same pattern with Rebekah in chapter twenty-six — three generations, one recurring failure.
